Thanksgiving 2007 - Seguin, Texas
December 22nd, 2007This Thanksgiving we travelled to Seguin, Texas, to spend the holiday with Danny, Elaine, and Benjamin Schacht. Jeff, Beth, Lindsay, and Logan Snider flew to Dallas a few days earlier to stay with us and they drove down with us the day before Thanksgiving. Grandma and Grandpa Bocker flew from Los Angeles to San Antonio and were picked up by Danny. Danny’s parents arranged for us to stay in their second home down on the Guadalupe River. There was plenty of room for all the Madsen’s and Snider’s.
On Thanksgiving, we drove over to Dan and Pat Schacht’s home in Seguin to eat dinner — which was wonderfully delicious! The tradition at the Schacht’s home is that all the men make the deserts for Thanksgiving dinner. My 2005 entry was a Jalapeno Cream Cheese pie (pictures). This year I decided to make a banana cream pie — a pie that my mother was famous for when we lived in Tonga (hint: tree ripened bananas).
The big event that brought us together this Thanksgiving was the arrival of Benjamin Daniel Schacht, who was born on October 16, 2007, and who was blessed in church on the Sunday following Thanksgiving by his father. Danny, his father, his brother Henry, Grandpa Bocker, and myself stood in the circle for the blessing.
We had planned on taking Grandma and Grandpa Bocker to the Alamo in San Antonio on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but the weather turned rainy and cold. So, we opted to stay indoors for the weekend. It was just nice to hang out together for a while.
